The Conch Republic is a tongue-in-cheek micronation that encompasses the city of Key West. It was established in 1982 by Mayor Wardlow of Key West as a protest against the roadblock placed on US 1, and the US federal government's failure to respond to complaints.
As the new Prime Minister of the Republic, Wardlow declared war against the US, surrendered a minute later, and then applied for $1bn in foreign aid.
The offset stars on the back of the jersey come from the Conch Republic Flag, and each jersey comes with #82 on the back in reference to the year that the Conch Republic 'seceded.'
Comis - Festivitas - Respectus below the number is a Latin nod to the area's unofficial slogan: Warmth, Humor, Respect.
