On 3 August, more than 80 keen football players (of all skill levels and gender identities) joined us at Haggerston School for the inaugural Icarus London Local. Pub staff, Icarus partners, and dedicated fans of their local lined up next to each other for a day of laid back football and even more laid back everything else.
The inaugural London Local gathered a quite frankly random assortment of people from throughout London for a day of laid-back festival of football, and it was a massive success.
Icarus teams, pub staff, friends and locals recruited from neighbourhood watch-esque Facebook groups all came together at Haggerston School to meet their teammates, pick up a few drinks, and play some mixed 5-a-side.
Then, everyone went back to the Nelson's on Columbia Road for an afterparty which notably featured a back-to-back DJ set from two London Local players and a stunning karaoke set from Icarus kit designer AJ.
Stay tuned for info on 2025's edition!
Ahead of the tournament we created 8 teams that represent different areas of London, with kits inspired by the culture and history of that area, then headed on an ‘arduous’ pub crawl around the city to find the perfect pub partners to sponsor each team. When the kits arrived, we returned to these haunts for a photoshoot, featuring staff from each pub.
