More Than A Festival of Soccer
Every year, the Icarus Cup plays host to grassroots teams from throughout the country (and the world), but in 2024, Icarus brought the world to Philly, by designing more than 80 kits in the image of interesting places around the world. In other words, it wasn’t just Icarus and CASA’s ‘festival of soccer’: it was our ‘World Fair of Soccer’.
As part of the Icarus Cup design gauntlet, every team member put forward their dream vacation destinations (other than Philly, obviously) that we wanted to see as a football shirt, from Addis Ababa to Glasgow and beyond.
With multiple Open, Mixto and Women’s/Non-Binary divisions, along with a new Over 30s Open division, the 2024 Icarus Cup was our biggest and most inclusive tournament yet. As always, we wrapped it up with a party at Black Sheep, the Copa America projected on the wall behind our DJ.
For those able to wake up in time on Sunday, we had our first ever Skills Competition, hosted by Street FC, which bottled the magic of the FIFA pre-match arena and had players face off in juggling, goalie battles and crossbar challenge.
