The home jersey worn by Dionysia Athens during its first and only Hellenic League of Champions campaign.
When the Hellenic League of Champions announced its first ever wildcard spot, it was suggested that selecting Dionysia Athens was taking things a little too literally. Founded by workers from the Great Dionysia, a festival celebrating Dionysus in Athens, the team was known for spending more time planning celebrations than tactics - when they had enough sober players to practice.
Despite their rudimentary preparations, Dionysia Athens thought their chances of HLC success had been buoyed when it was announced that the winner of the Great Dionysia’s main event - a match with Eleutherae FC - would be awarded the “undisputed GOAT of the region”. Their post-match celebrations took a hit when they saw ‘the finest goat in Athens’ being herded onto the pitch. Still, they’d reserved a squad spot for their hotly anticipated new signing, so the animal appeared on the bench twice in their Hellenic League campaign.
The quirky Hellenic League of Champions debutantes weren’t given much of a chance, but Captain Chionides wasn’t fazed. “We’re just going to enjoy ourselves out there” he quipped.
