Pubs are amazing aren’t they? Whether they're taking us in to watch a match or they're hosting your 5-a-side team's latest post-game postmortem, they contribute a lot to our football culture. So we teamed up with Local, The Lite Beer to show them some love again with the help of the beautiful game… and some even more beautiful shirts.
On 8th September, 8 of the most iconic Young’s pubs in London battled it out to take home the Local Cup, wearing shirts custom-designed by Icarus to reflect the culture and identity of each establishment.
It didn't end there though, because everyone got the chance to proudly support their local, whether or not they lined up on the day. Every shirt we designed for the tournament was made available for preorder on our website, with all profits going to Wooden Spoon, Young's chosen children's charity.
Just like last year, we wanted to pick a select lineup of well-loved pubs to invite to the tournament. Thankfully, unlike last year, we didn't have to undertake five gruelling pubs crawls to find them, because Local had their list at the ready.
With the help of Local, Young's and some very committed bar staff, we compiled a mood board for these 8 pubs across South-West London. The Icarus design team got to work, drawing on each bar's interior decor, beer garden atmosphere and well-known quirks.
And that eventually led us to our 8 competing pubs, their kits featuring trimmings as golden as their ale taps to a pattern well-suited to a 'pub that floods'.
