On Nov 1, we headed to Canada for our Battle of the Bands tournament, which brought together 8 Toronto artists for a day of soccer in aid of Canada SCORES. The tournament lived up to all expectations: the kits went down a treat, the tunes playing on the sidelines were tasteful and/or unreleased, and best of all, the Canadians were very very nice.
Thank you to Alex Robert Ross for being the proverbial frontman of the event, as well as Broken Social Scene, Ducks Ltd, Fucked Up, The OBGMs, Kiwi Jr, Heaven for Real, Shania Twink and Special Delivery for taking part. In the end, the Toronto music community had no choice but to bow to Broken Social Scene’s mighty band of music - and Toronto O-40 league - legends, who held the custom Battle of the Bands Strat aloft at the finish.
We then took to Low Bar in the Junction Triangle for an impromptu World Series watch party, which was a thrilling sporting education for the Icarus London contingent and a helpful reminder that not all sporting events end the way you’d like them to. Brutal.
